Abdominal Pain/Stomach Pain

Chronic Functional Abdominal pain is caused by an increased stimulation of the pain nerve fibers within the abdomen and how they connect with the brain. This condition is not imagined by the patient; the pain/discomfort is real and can be quite uncomfortable for someone diagnosed with this condition.

The diagnosis can be made after the provider has ordered x-rays, sonograms, CT scans, lab testing and upper/lower endoscopies and all show rather “normal” results

The goal of treatment is to take control of symptoms and to improve the patient’s quality of life with interventions such as mind/body connections (stress management) and some medications determined appropriate by the provider. Overall, this condition can be frustrating as there is no “surgery” or “magic cure” for this condition but, by working with your physician, effective control of this problem can be achieved.
